School Meals

Eat Right @Pioneer Learning Trust

Our school kitchen is part of our Trust-wide team, Eat Right and is proud to serve a variety of meals, fully prepared and freshly cooked on the premises, every day. Our internal catering team pride themselves that all menus are produced in line with UK government food standards and legislation, whilst offering your child a tasty and well-balanced meal. The team is committed to bringing in new ideas by engaging with the children and making them a part of how the menu is shaped to deliver exciting, freshly made and modern dishes, which reflect the needs of our children.

We offer a full Halal menu alongside non-Halal; observing full separation during storage, preparation and service between the Halal and non-Halal food. This enables us to meet the needs of all of our families.

School meals can also be adapted for specific dietary requirements; the kitchen team reviews the dietary and allergen information provided by parents to adapt the dishes to meet the children's individual requirements. It is essential that this information is accurate and as up-to-date as possible. If you have any concerns or want to update the information please contact the school office.

The weekly menus are always attached to the weekly newsletter that the school sends out. Please look out for one-off special days, like our Roald Dahl, Diwali or Italian fun-themed menus.

Fruit and vegetable snacks are available free to children in Nursery to Year 2.

We encourage children to drink water during the day, children should bring a named water bottle to school each day.

 Paying for school meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 may eat school meals daily FREE of charge.  The Government-funded 'Universal Free School Meals' scheme funds schools to provide a meal for our younger children. You don't need to do anything to take up this offer except register your child online at Relish.  You do not need to make any payment - the meals are free for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. You can register below with the Local Council.

LBC Free School Meal Applications

Children in years 3-6 are still required to pay for school meals, these are currently charged at £2.35 per day (£11.50 per week). If your child has school meals, you may be entitled to have these free.  If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals, please ask the school office for details on how to apply.  All money is payable in advance and we use an online payment system - see our payments page for more details, here.

Information for parents

  • If your child usually has a packed lunch and you would like them to have occasional school meals (including a Christmas lunch), please register them with the Relish system detailed above, so that the kitchen team can schedule and prepare their meal when they do choose to have one.
  • If your child prefers packed lunches but you would like them to take up the offer of a free lunch in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, our kitchen offers a 'Grab Bag'. This contains a freshly made sandwich or wrap, vegetable sticks, a freshly made cake, biscuit or fruit-based yoghurt and fresh fruit.  These are available every day, throughout the school year.
  • If you prefer your child to have a packed lunch from home, please ensure that you encourage healthy eating, perhaps by using wholemeal bread and providing fruit.  To encourage healthy eating, children are not allowed fizzy drinks, sweets or chocolate bars in their lunches.  Lunchboxes should be a standard size and plastic boxes with a handle are preferred. Please also add your child's name to their lunchbox.
